“Margaret Elman is the creative force behind Chair Couture. The idea for Chair Couture is to “re-dress” the vintage French and Italian pieces with bold, modern fabrics making every bergere, fauteuil, settee and boudoir bench a striking, one-of-a-kind art piece. These chairs are designed not only to fit in, but to actually stand out and become a focal point in the most contemporary environments. Because every Chair Couture piece is a one-of-a-kind, there are no style numbers here. Instead, each piece is given its own, special name as we get to know his or her plucky, little personality.”
“Tess”
Carved French fauteuil, circa 1890 with original white patina.
Black and white geometric weave fabric is “Unisol” by Verner Panton (1960) reissued by Maharam.
“Rosebud”
Carved French diminutive bergere, cira 1900 with aqua lacquer
Feather and down upholstery in “quatrefoil” by Alexander Girard (1954) reissued by Maharam
25″ x 23″ x 29.5″h
These pieces can be a lot fun, their new/old appeal makes them easy to place and enjoy in most decors; I like them in baths and dressing rooms for a burst of color with little commitment to one room.
